Letting go of some of the hoard.

Hi All, I made this background while I was working on my gdt piece for Gloria Stengel's Craft Hoarders Anonymous challenge Who's the Boss.  I will show the one I made for the challenge on Friday, once I made the background I could not decide what to do with it, until today.  The background is from Bird, I cut it into a stencil so I could use up some of the beautiful embossing glitter I bought last year with birthday money.  I bought 2 jars of this beautiful Recollections embossing powder, but it also had some big pieces of glitter in it so I could not find a place for it to work out in the past.  It works beautifully on this stenciled background though. I laid out some embossing paste then the glittered embossing powder on top so it has a lot of dimension to it.   The other die cut is as old as the hills also ( 9/11/09 ) it came from the Vintage Moth blog, it was just a picture but I brought it into my Make The Cut program and did a pixel trace to turn it into a cut file for my electronic cutting machine the KNK Zing.  The lovely netting goes back to when my daughter worked for Zainy Brainy while she was in high school (she's now 29 yrs old), I have a jumbo roll we bought when they went out of business.  And to my surprise, when I went to peel off one of the rhinestones for her earrings I found out they were actually brads, ha ha, I grabbed them at the Customer Garage Sale at My Craft Store 1 year ago.  I paid 25 cents for a full card of them, they were in someone else's stash for quite a long time too.  Well, I am not that good at coloring so I used some Tim Holtz distress ink in antique linen along with a little worn lipstick pink for the skin tones and then weathered wood for her hair.  I wove the netting in and out of the cuts in the hat, then cut some of the stencil pieces out of the envelope liner to make it match.
It would be great if you could join in at Gloria Stengel's Craft Hoarders Anonymous challenge Who's the Boss.  Great way to push yourself to use up some of that hoarded stash., and have some fun too.

I just found a fabulous challenge site called COUNTRY VIEW CHALLENGE and they are looking for something "Stenciled" for their challenge STENCIL IT, perfect for my stenciled background.

And 1 more fun challenge I found called VINTAGE CHALLENGE, they are looking for me NOT TO USE STAMPS  So this die cut and stenciled piece will fit perfectly in that challenge.

That's it for today, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Christmas card a week catch up

Hi All, I am behind in my Christmas card a week entry's, so here is week, 18, 19, and 20.
I made this for the challenge at Winter Wonderland calling for 3 of 3  .I made these using an SVG cut file for the ornaments from Bird called Baubles.  I layed it out using MTC software, then cut it on my KNK Zing onto white card stock.  I mounted 3 different colors of foil behind the 3 cuts and added a piece of glittered tape to the bottom. To round out my 3 of 3 I added
3 glittered rhinestones to the tops of the 3 ornaments.  The envelope is lined with a matching embossed foil.
I made the next 2 cards, (Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings) for the Thats Crafty challenge calling for Masks, Templates, Stencils.  Since I loved the pretty ornaments so much I cut a stencil from the same arrangement onto some clear polyester sheet,  I placed the stencil over some red card stock, then applied some embossing paste over the stencil, removed the stencil and added some Stickles fine dry glitter in Stardust.  I let them dry together and the glitter stuck quite well to the embossing paste.  I added the ribbons made from embroidery floss and some rhinestones to finish the look, these are all 5 x 7 cards.  For the envelopes on these 2 I used the same SVG cut and added a foiled ornament to the cut out.  That's it for today, thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane
Updated to add, this card was chosen in the Top 3 at
Thats Crafty!  Thank you!

Christmas Card a Week #8

Hi All, week 8!  Whoo hoo, it sure feels good to have 8 Christmas cards done and ready to go!   This card was a bit hard to photograph, the card stock is a deep gray the red border is some leftover industrial plastic, it is see through and the snowflake was die cut from a gift box and it picks up every color of light in the room.  The image is from Gecko Galz Vintage Christmas digital stamps
I added some white lace Stickles to the Mistletoe Berries and red Stickles to the holly berries.  I trimmed the image in some pale blue embossing powder also.  The die cut is from Birds Cards.  I used my new Perfect Layers Mini Tools and Perfect Cutting Mat. to cut the clean red border, don't forget today is the last day of the Perfect Paper Crafting Brand Ambassador Blog hop, see details in the 2 posts below.   That's it, thanks for stopping by, and thanks for all the great comments.   ~Diane

Flowers in her hair

Hi All, I made this 5x 7 card for the City Crafter Challenge to use a black and white photo.  I used an image from Gecko Galz Beautiful Dreamer collage sheet along with a die cut from Birds Cards that I cut with my Zing.  I trimmed it with some Starform Stickers in silver and a flower from my stash that I added a Fab Scrap pearl center to.  I bought the pearl centers from Blitsy and I love the look of them!  The liner for the envelope is just a white on white print.  That's it for today.  Thanks for stopping by.  ~Diane

Springtime Gem of a sale!

Hi All, great news today to go along with this Gecko Galz DT piece.  In celebration of our third annual retreat we are having a one day buy one get one sale for all our friends and followers. Just go to the Gecko Galz Site and for every product you buy you get another absolutely FREE!
If you look closely at the image you can see her looking into a hand mirror, so I thought this would be a great idea for a Birthday card for one of my girlfriends.   For this 5 x 7 card I chose the image from Springtime Gems, I printed it on matte photo paper then glued it to a piece of Stampin Up dark purple card stock, I trimmed a 1/16 border of purple with my Perfect Layers Ruler.  I used the free die cut of the rose pattern from Birdscards in green for the card and in purple for the envelope liner.  I added a piece of purple behind the green die cut.  The ribbon and lace trims were then attached, then I added my image and border on top with some foam tape.

Snowflakes

Hi All, today it is snowflakes inside and out!  It is snowing here in Michigan and the snow is coming down hard too!  Looks beautiful but so very, very cold!  Today is the perfect day to post these cards I made with Gecko Galz Snow Queen Collection  and the Snowflake Z card cut file from BirdsCards.com.  I made mine a 5 x 5 size and used some shirt/gift boxes I purchased at Dollar Treasure (3 boxes for a dollar)  to cut the sparkly snowflakes from.  You can not see it in the pictures but I added some flock to the Snow Queens furs and also some Stickles to her buttons.
Two announcements for you, stop by Gecko Galz to see what the weekly Holly Jolly December Giveaway is and stop by Pinterest to Pin it to Win it!  Every month Leanne gives away a beautiful stamp set to 1 lucky winner, it should be you!  All you have to do is pin it to your Pinterest board.  To make it easy for me I set up a Pin it to Win it board, so many companies are offering opportunities to do the same.  Wish you all tons of luck!  Thanks for looking.  ~Diane

Cards I made with my Zing

Hi All, thought I would share some of the things I have been making with you.  I have been busy playing with my Zing, learning how to alter files and make my own with the Make The Cut program.  For those of you who have asked, the Zing is a KNK Zing, it is an electronic or digital die cutting machine.  It cuts all different thicknesses and does print and cut too.  I did not know what it was either, until I started looking to replace my Cricut, so happy to say goodbye to that company!  I won't even buy their embossing folders, they don't play fair at all in the crafting community, selling machines with the promise of letting you use software to make and import cutting files, then pulling the rug and suing the companies who made the software that made their machines so popular, just so they could lock you into buying 80$ cartridges!!  That was a real dirty deal!  Well I don't need their folders anyway because I can make my own with my KNK Zing!
The 1st card is a Bendy card, the cut file is available from Birdscards.com.
The 2nd and 3rd cards were done with the Pixel trace tool in MTC using free clip art I found on the web.  The 4th card was a round door file from Bird that I changed out a bit to look like a more modern door, her file used a rounded door.  Well, that's it for today, I have more cards to share, I hope to post them later in the week.  I hope to catch up with your blogs this week too.  As always, thanks for looking.  ~Diane

Garden gatefold envelope and cards

Hi All, I made this fancy floral envelope with a SVG die cut from Bird at Birds Cards, stop by and say hello her work is gorgeous and she designs and offers these SVG die cuts free of charge!  I cut the SVG on my Zing and then hand cut the green liner beneath.  The card is made with an image from Crafty Secrets digital stamp set Flower Garden Set.  I took a few pictures so you could see how the card fits into the envelope.  I also wanted to show you how I changed it up using a Word tool adding the shadow to the card that says Love.  I shaded the edges in gray but the shading on the leaves was all done by a setting in Word.  I think it's pretty cool, I added the words to the picture using Word too, the cool font came with the digital set.  I also embossed the cards with a Stampin Up plate, I wish I would have thought to emboss the inside of the green envelope liners, that would have really looked cool.  Well that's it for today, thanks for stopping by and as always thanks for looking.  ~Diane

Blue eyed camels

Hi, my friend Meg asked for a card with camels and palm trees, and who knew, Lindsay had just the right set!  I made this card with Lindsay's Stamp Stuff Arabian Nights Party kit, I cut the SVG with the landscaped hills, trees and camels.  I covered the trees with some tree bark on a roll I found on clearance a long time ago, first time I used it, but for 50 cents I knew I would get to it eventually, ha ha.  The Sun and grass are SVG cuts from Birds Cards, I had some real grass scrapbook paper that I cut the grass SVG from.  Sorry, the cloud was already cut out and in my stash, I don't remember who it came from.  The only envelopes I had in my stash for this size card were silver or red, so I used the silver and added some cloud background paper to the liner and used a little Tim Holts distress ink to add a few more clouds to the envelope too.  I think the pretty blue eyes I placed on the camels really set it off!  I used 2mm clear rhinestones from Pizzazz Aplenty and I colored them the perfect shade of sky blue!  If anyone sees any palm tree with camel challenges for me to enter this into let me know!
Thanks for looking.  ~Diane

Birthday card

Hi, I took 3 different shots of this card so you could see it inside and out.  I found the yellow gate-fold card on clearance a couple years ago, it was an Anna Griffin wedding announcement set, truly pretty enough on it's own, the envelopes alone were worth the price I paid for it.  I added some lace to the front of it and then glued down the floral cut out flaps.  I don't think you can see it but I added some Stickles to the flowers too.  I folded the floral flap and glued it down to the outside of the envelope since this card will be hand delivered, you can see the solid yellow inside of the envelope in the 2nd photo.  I cut another piece of the gate-fold, mounted it to the left flap of the card front and punched the sides of it then added a sentiment and a place for a signature.  The inside of the card has a beautiful Gecko Galz image mounted on to a piece of yellow cs which is then mounted on to a gorgeous white die cut from Bird's Cards, I added a sheet of blue cs to the background to make it all pop.  And yes I did use my Perfect Layers Rulers to get the image cut square and to get the 1/8" yellow trim on it straight this time lol.

I just want to take a moment and thank Leanne Seed at Gecko Galz, I used the free image from her 2012 blog hop.  She is always generously offering beautiful collage sheets through her blog hops, on her personal blog Fripperies and Butterflies and through the Yahoo Gecko Galz Papercrafting· Ephemera Emporium Crafting Challenges group.  She offers so many fun challenges and plenty of chances to win free images too, I would love to see you join us there.
I also want to thank Bird from Birds Cards, she offers gorgeous die cuts in SVG and other formats free on her blog along with digital images and free how to instructions.  She has a Forum now where you can ask questions, get to know other crafters, and she will even entertain the idea of suggestions, you are such a sweet person Bird.
Many thanks to both of these kind and generous ladies for sharing your talents with all of us.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!  I made this card for my dear friend Valerie (Bastelmania is her lovely blog) who had some knee surgery.  I know she loves Halloween so I thought the play on words would be fun for her, it was, she loved it.  I stuffed the kettle with some extra bottles of witchy potion so she would have some to play with too.  The spooky paper is a freebie from Gecko Galz, Lee Ann is always so generous with the free images.  The skull border, cauldron and spider web are all free cut files from Bird, (Birds Cards is her blog), she too is very generous with her beautiful and free cut files.  I cut the cauldron from gold mirror stock and then embossed it, added ruby rhinestones to the skull eyes and the tiny spiders too.  I printed all my images on glossy photo paper, I even splurged and used it for the envelope liner.
Sorry I have not been posting much, my house is still under construction, still can not locate half of my craft stuff, but the end is in sight.  My computer crashed twice too and getting all of that together again has been a challenge too.  Spent the better part of yesterday finding and installing all of my additional fonts.  Installing all of my old programs too has been fun, but I am fortunate that my son builds computers so he helped with all the hard stuff, I get to do the fun re install work.
Just a note to all of you who have been affected by Sandy, all of you in that region are in my prayers.
Hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween, don't eat too much candy!

Bridal Shower card

Del wanted a wedding shower card so I made this one for her.  I sure hope she likes it.  I used one of Lindsay's new sets April Showers, available as an SVG die cut and printable PNG and JPG.  I moved it up 2 sizes larger and ran the umbrella through my Big Shot to emboss.  I used some Flower Soft and the grass cut file is from Birds cards.  I printed the Bridal sentiment with my printer, just guessed where I wanted it and printed it on to the 5x7 size.  Envie liner is a punch, I used some Tim Holtz distress inks also.  I used some foam to give it all some dimension.   I am linking up to
